Environmental Monitoring Solution
FTEC Electrical installed a new creek monitoring station (pictured) at Gunpowder Creek for Capricorn Copper, north of Mt Isa. The team also repaired three other stations that were damaged during a flood.
The new station monitors electrical conductivity (EC) and pH of the creek. This allows the mine to satisfy their environmental protection requirements as part of their operating licence.
The system is recording these values continuously and uploading them to the internet via satellite. The station is fully autonomous and operates on solar power.
Manufactured out of stainless steel, galvanised steel and aluminium for long service life in a harsh environment. It is also fitted with sun shields for passive cooling.
Sensors are located in the creek bed with the telemetry and data logging occurring 80 meters away on a high bank to avoid flooding.
